Rick Stein's Cha Ca
This weekend will be the Fried Fish with Turmeris and Dill ( Cha Ca ). It looks so simple on the TV and Rick mentions it was life changing for him. Lets see how it matches up. I'll update the notes and add pictures during the weekend
Having grown up with Asian (namely Vietnamese) cooking and an environment where family and friends are always having get-togethers was all a normal part of our everyday lives. I’ve come to enjoy and relish this and hence adapt it as part of my life as years went by. In our family, the “gourmet cook” was my father. He would cook all things from the simplest to the most lavish and exotic dishes. There was always something new and interesting to try. For my Father, cooking for friends and family was simply the joy of life.
Living in a family where your Father is just the best cook and does it all, I had never really learnt to cook before leaving home. When I did finally move into my own place I was totally lost and did not know how to cook anything. I started off with instant pasta dishes in a packet or a sausage and steak here and there before realising how much I’d miss the flavours I’d grown up with. Amazingly I would conjure up dishes purely from memories of how they tasted when my father made them and surprisingly they turned out great.
